Western European Family History Conference

The Family History Library and the research specialists of the European Reference team invite you to a free week-long conference focused exclusively on Western European research. The conference, which will be held May 15-19, 2017, is perfect for beginning and intermediate genealogists interested in learning about records of Western European localities, and Family History Library collections.

Come and spend a week at the world renowned Family History Library learning from our expert staff of genealogists as well as experienced guest genealogists. Learn how to effectively use historical records and how to do research in several European countries. 

Explore such topics as census, church, immigration, and vital records. Learn more about German, French, Swiss, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Belgium research. Discover new techniques, strategies, and methodology to apply to your genealogical research problems.

All classes will be held in the main floor classrooms.

The conference, which will be held September 12th-16th 2016, is perfect for beginning and intermediate genealogists interested in learning about records of European localities, and Family History Library collections.

Come and spend a week at the world renowned Family History Library learning from our expert staff of genealogists as well as experienced guest genealogists. Learn how to effectively use historical records and how to do research in several European countries.

Most classes will be held at the Church History Museum Theater with the exception of the lab classes, which will be taught at the Family History Library in the B1 Lab.

Texas in Town!

It all started about 20 years ago when a woman from Texas came up to me at the Family History Library Reference counter.  Her name was Doris Kosub and she had lots of names that I recognized on her pedigree chart.  Names that were from my area of Schlesien.  It was so cool!  We have stayed in touch over the years and this week a good sized group of Texans are in the Library doing their research.  Today we had lunch together in the Garden Room at the JSMB.  These Texans are great and lots of fun, too!  I was glad that we got all got together again.  It has been some years since my mom, Tyson and I were in Texas and they showed us a great time.  These are special people!

At work we have R & D day.  This is one day a month we get to "Professionally Develop" while doing our own projects.  I LOVE R & D DAY!  So does the whole staff.  We LIVE for R & D DAY!

Before I start working, my desk is nice and relatively orderly.  But after a little while it gets wld and crazy!

Community Trees Online

Today we talked about a project called community trees.  Just what I want for my Jaryzsow Reconstruction Project.  I have been looking for some way to put this online.  Maybe this will help.  I also discovered, quite by accident, a man in a French-Polish genealogy forum that was looking for records of the Kalisch family in Nogowschuetze.  What a strange surprise.  I am really excited about this.  I posted a reply and hope you will see it and respond to me.  I have many Kalisch in my reconstruction project.  And only one of the female name that he had which was Kondziela.  It fact, he was searching for an Agnes and that is the only Kondziela that I have found.
