Land Records Anton and Thomas Gralla Giegowitz

Here are 2 samples of land records. These are of Anton and Thomas Gralla from Giegowitz, now known as Gajowice.  Gajowice is in the Toszek area in Poland.  I have been able to get many of these types of records.  Wish I could post them all, but I haven't got that much time!  You can make them larger by clicking on the picture.

  1. My Great great Grandfather is Anton Gralla, born April 7 1827 in Giegowitz, Schlesien; We knew nothing of our Gralla ancestors, as Anna Gralla died in childbirth after my Opa was born, and the father remarried and had many more children. it is very exciting to have this side of the family open up

  2. To clarify! because, I tend to ramble when I get excited, and even when I am not excited: Anna Gralla is my Opa's mother. She married Carl Garus and lived in Beuthem. She and Carl set out to produce a lot of children...5 survived to adulthood. My Opa, Lorenz Franz Garus (b 1910) was second youngest...his younger sister, Susanne, was born (lived and produced children) and then Anna died in childbirth, 1917, my Opa was 7. Carl remarried, and produced 6 more children; we lost track of Anna, and we were frequently heard to comment "who was this Anna Gralla? where did she come from?" When she died she left money for her children; when my Opa came of age (18?) he went home to claim it (he had run away at age 14 and was wandering about Germany evading police, a talent that aided him well during WWII) Lorenz Franz Garus blew all his inheritence money on a motorcycle and took off across Europe again. Lorenz settled in Hamburg, and spent a considerable amount of money getting his sister and other relatives out of Oberschlesien, which was now Poland...this would be in the late 50s. My mother, Edelgard Garus, emigrated from Hamburg in '53 at age 19. My Opa, Lorenz Garus, was pale blonde with blue eyes, the rest of his family look Italian, brown hair, blue eyes, and Great Uncle Alois had brown eyes. My mother, Edelgard, has a genetically inherited, recessive, disease calle Alpha 1 antitrypsan deficiency. one gene from Lorenz Garus and one from Linda Garus (Oma). It is the mild 'S' form. When my Opa, Lorenz, was old I could not understand his German...my Oma said he was speaking the dialect of his childhood. My Opa's family were Catholic.
